EV Charging Station Installation Process
An EV charger installation requires a specialist, this work should only be carried out by a trained professional. There are several stages to quoting and installing an EV charge point. Our installation process is as follows:

01 The EV installer is contacted for a quotation.
02 The installer attends site to assess the current electrical installation set up, or is sent photos to enable an assessment to be made. It is then determined whether the current fuse board is suitable to have a car charging circuit added, or a new independent board is added to protect the car charger independently.
03 The customer needs to provide the installer or company carrying out the work with an M-PAN number. This is a 21, 11, or 9 digit number beginning with ‘S’ and is found on the electricity bill. Why is this important? It is so the Distribution Network Operator [DNO] is notified in order for them to check that the network can have a charger added, whether the incoming fuse needs upgrading from 60-100 amps and to notify them that a charger is going on the network so they can monitor the transformer. This is because a large number of transformers are failing from being overloaded because the installer of a charge point has not notified the DNO.
04 The EV installer or company offers a quotation, if you live in rented accommodation, a landlord, or are in a block of flats then you still qualify for the OZEV grant. Also its worth noting that there is also a workplace charging schemes still operating. For the home charge grant its £350.00 off the install price per socket [max 2] and for the workplace, again its £350.00 off the install price per socket.
05 Upon acceptance of the quote, arrangements are made to carry out the install. This is where any work by the DNO takes place if required prior to the install, for example the main fuseboard is upgraded.
The installation takes place and if its by Rygol Electrical, its done in a tidy and neat way with all materials and rubbish cleared before leaving. Payment is also collected before leaving site.
06 An installation certificate is completed and sent to the local authority and they are notified of the work under part of the building regulations. If selling the property, it means you have evidence that it has been installed by a registered professional. Also the DNO has the final notification that the install has taken place.
