Energy Independence for a Country Home in Stroud

by | Feb 24, 2026

Client: Residential homeowner, Bournes Green, Stroud

Set in the rural surroundings of Bournes Green, Stroud, this detached two-storey country family home was facing rising energy costs and increasing electricity demand. With an annual consumption of approximately 6,000 kWh and the addition of a recently acquired electric vehicle, the homeowners wanted a long-term energy solution that would reduce bills while increasing resilience.

Their objective was to invest in a high-performance solar and battery system that would deliver measurable savings, provide EV compatibility, and protect the home against unexpected power cuts — all while maintaining the character and integrity of their countryside property.

The Requirement

The homeowners approached us with a clear brief. They required:

  • A solar PV system to significantly reduce annual electricity costs
  • Compatibility with their EV charger
  • Battery storage to use solar energy beyond daylight hours
  • Protection from grid power outages
  • A system designed to maximise self-consumption and export returns

The solution needed to be efficient, future-ready, and capable of supporting modern energy demands without compromising reliability.

The Solution

To meet these requirements, we designed and installed a robust 8.1 kWp solar PV system tailored to the property’s energy profile.

The system features 18 × 450W DMEGC solar panels, selected for their high efficiency and long-term performance. Each panel was fitted with optimisers to ensure maximum generation output and enhanced performance monitoring.

Energy storage is provided by a 9 kWh SigEnergy battery system, allowing excess solar energy generated during the day to be stored and used in the evenings or during lower generation periods. This significantly increases on-site energy utilisation.

At the heart of the system is a SigEnergy 6 kW inverter, efficiently managing energy production, storage, and distribution throughout the property.

For additional resilience, a Gateway backup system was installed, providing protection against power cuts and ensuring essential circuits remain operational during grid outages.

The entire installation was completed within two days, delivered efficiently and with minimal disruption to the household.
